How we got these numbers
All figures are derived from 22,742 self-reported hourly rates submitted to contractrates.fyi across 81 roles. Rates are reported in USD by the submitter; non-USD entries are excluded from rate calculations.
The “freelance” view shown on this page reflects 11,407 entries where the submitter identified as a freelancer. Distribution, median, and percentiles are computed across all freelance entries with no outlier trimming (p10–p90 range is shown so readers can see the spread).
Role rankings include only roles with at least 25 responses to avoid headline numbers driven by tiny samples. Sample size is shown alongside every chart. Country averages include all reported rates from freelancers in that country; markets with fewer than 25 responses are excluded from ranking charts.
Numbers refresh on the first of each month. If aggregate values haven't materially changed, we still bump the "Updated" date to confirm the page is actively maintained.
