What should you quote?

The median of $100/hr equals $800 for 8 billable hours. That conversion is not a separately observed day rate. Account for your non-billable time and costs before choosing a price.

Freelance accounting rates, employee wages and firm fees

This page contains self-reported freelance and contract hourly rates. It is not an employee salary survey or a quote for a CPA firm's services. Credentials, location, service scope and business overhead can make those prices differ.

  • Distinguish ongoing bookkeeping, month-end close, advisory work and specialized accounting projects.
  • Agree on record volume, record quality, deadlines and what the client must supply.
  • Separate cleanup work and additional reviews from a recurring package; define the services your qualifications cover.

A worked pricing example

Illustrative package: 8 delivery hours and 2 hours of client review at an example $75/hour give a $750 base. An extra 4 hours of historical cleanup would add $300 if agreed at the same rate. These are example inputs, not a CPA fee recommendation.

An employee hourly wage does not include the same business costs and nonbillable time as a freelance billing rate. Use the calculator to cover your own costs, and the role data as a limited comparison rather than a quote for a specific accounting service.
